The spiritual gift of faith is an extraordinary capacity to believe and trust in God’s power, promises, and purposes, even in seemingly impossible circumstances. This gift is more than the general faith every believer possesses; it is a heightened, God-given confidence in His sovereignty that fuels hope, love, encourages others, and strengthens the entire body of Christ.
In a practical sense, it is unwavering trust that God is still ready and waiting for his sons and daughters–who have chosen a different path in the forms of the LGBTQ lifestyles, drugs, sex, money, and power, etc.–to turn to him. It is unwavering trust that “his kindness leads people back to him” (Romans 2:4).
Just like the other gifts, the spiritual gift of faith is rooted in love: “Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy” (1 Corinthians 14:1).
The gift of faith is securely knowing that God loves us so deeply that he wants to break generational patterns of abuse, depression, and oppression. It is also seeing the reality that he wants to bring the seasoned churchgoer, who has hidden behind their Bible for years, to a softened heart that doesn’t use their knowledge for pride, but for change and an increase in people experiencing Jesus’s love.
Faith is a belief that our joy comes from being dependent on Jesus, not money and things we own. Much like receiving gifts at Christmas, the gift of faith is well … a gift.
This is given to us from our loving Creator, and it is not something that we can earn. We are called to “earnestly desire the spiritual gifts,” so ask him for it!
There is a life out there where you can live with trust, love, and obedience to the Father. Through the Holy Spirit, the gift of faith helps us live that life abundantly.
